Eleanor was said to have been a talented piano player and her husband Henry Switzer played the guitar. For a while they entertained as dance hall musicians on the west coast. They reportedly had two children, Darlene Dale and Barry Robert, who married into the same MacInnis family (ie - a sister and brother married a sister and brother).

Morris was married by the Reverend Thos Goldsmith of the "Canadian Wesleyon Methodist New Connexion" (note spelling of "Connexion"). Witnessed by his brother Amos and Margaret Gower. Morris age (73) and Hannah age (70) are reported on the 1901 Huron East census with children Bertha B. (28) and Charles L. (12).
FOOTNOTE:
Part of the difficulty in tracking records of the "Fogal" family line in the 1850's until
near the present, was the fact that the "record keeper" for any given event might well
record the surname with a variety of spellings - and the records for Morris are no exception.
His wedding record, with his brother Amos present as one of the witnesses, records both
his and his brother's surname spelling as "Fogle". Yet when their father's estate was
probated, (John Philip), ALL surviving family members, including both Morris and Amos,
signed their names with a spelling of "Fogal".
A Nov 30/97 phone call from Elinore Copeland offered the following additional information about Hannah: Her parents were reportedly Michael Gower and Elizabeth Wilkey. Hannah had a brother George who married a Barbara Buckindail. (The Buckindail line apparently also goes back to the Berzcy settlers.) Her brother George reportedly married a second time to an Emily Fogal. Unfortunately, no information is available as to where she fits into the line.
His full given name was John Philip Fogal but he was known publicly as "Philip". (John) Philip's name appears as part of the family of Charles Henry "Vogel" in Berzcy's 1803/04 census. His age is given as "7" essentially establishing a birth year of 1795. At the time of his death in 1870, (Burial: Plot 020, 12, Pine Orchard, Ontario), his oldest surviving son Archie attested on the Death Registration that "John Phillip", (note the double "L" spelling), was born in Markham Twp. The certificate gave his age as "74 years, 10 mos" which is in basic agreement with the Berzcy list to confirm a birth year of 1795. (It should be noted Philip's name is spelled with either one or two "L"s on a variety of legal papers at this point in time. For the sake of consistency in this record, the single "L" version has been used).
Somewhere in all of this, the family surname was now also "Anglicized" to the present-day spelling of Fogal although "Fogel" and "Fogle" sometimes still showed up in "official" documentation. Adding to the difficulty in sorting out the details of this family, is that "John" preferred to be known publicly by his second given name of "Philip", while his brother "William John" added to the confusion by dropping "William" to become known by his second name of "John".
While born in Markham Twp., John apparently met and married Clarinda in the USA before later returning to Canada. (A 'submitted' LDS marriage record gives a date and location). It is confirmed that the family settled and farmed near Pine Orchard, (east of present-day Newmarket Ontario), as the family is recorded in both the 1861 and 1871 York County census lists for Whitchurch Township. They are the ONLY Fogal surnames found in the York county census records for those years. An earlier "Municipal Directory" compiled in 1837 lists "Philip" as the property owner of Con 5, Lot 29, Whitchurch Twp. Death Registration 1870/097697 Whitchurch Twp.
The doctor's report for the death certificate lists her as born in "Mass, USA", and gives her age as "84 years, 10 mos, 22 days". The official Ontario Death Record, (Ref 1881 CN21843, Image 53, Film #1853235 #4173029), reports her death date as 5 Jan 1881 and is the death date used in this file. A 'submitted' LDS birth date of 2 Feb 1796 has been used for her birth record and this more or less agrees with the reported 'age at death' calculation of 84+ years. Clarinda was reportedly a school teacher in the USA before her marriage to John.
While it is known her husband John Phillip did NOT die until January 30, 1870, Clarinda was for some reason listed as "head of household" on the 1861 census for Whitchurch Twp., York County. The 1871 census records her as born in the USA, a "Quaker" of German family origin and age 75, (equating her birth year of 1796 which agrees with her death certificate). The 1871 census shows Clarinda living with her youngest known son Archibald and his family. Sons Amos and Henry and their families were the next listings on the census, which would seem to indicate they either farmed the same property or were at least neighbouring farmers. A Map in the York County Historical Atlas for Whitchurch Twp. published in 1878 identifies the property in the name of the "Fogal Estate" and describes it as Con 5, Lot 29, southeast of Pine Orchard. This was about four miles east of the 1878 boundaries of the Town of Newmarket.
At the time of the 1871 census for Whitchurch Twp., he was listed as age 33. His wife is listed as Bridget, age 27 and born in Ireland. It's noted that census information reports the wives of both Archibald and his brother Henry were born in Ireland raising the possibility that they may have been sisters from a neighbouring farm family. The children of Archibald and Bridget were listed as Ida, age 10, and Phebe, age 1 - both born in Ontario.
