Philip apparently married twice. On the 1901 census for Whitchurch Twp., Philip is listed as a widower with three sons Leslie (13), Harrison (10) and Albert (4). On the 1911 census, Philip now age 54, is listed with his wife Eva (age 29), with additional children Jason (9) Florence (6) and Oakley (2).

Born on Manitoulin Island, John bought a farm near Kagawong and raised 10 sons. A family of ten sons and no daughters is in itself unusual. However, another anomaly was that the parents had the foresight to give each of their ten sons two given names -- and none of the 20 names was repeated.
