Thomas Flewelling was a Private, Guide and Recruiter for British Colonels Carleton and Simcoe with the King's American Regiment during the American Revolutionary War (1775 - 1783) fighting with the British Forces.  As a result, when the war ended with the British defeat, any person, along with their family and servants, fighting alongside the British and refused to swear allegience to the new United States was forced to leave the country and was shipped to the British province of Nova Scotia, (which included the lower half of the future Province of New Brunswick.) He and his family eventually settled along the Saint John River at Oak Point, Greenwich Parish, Kings County, New Brunswick after receiving his land grant.
